Stephenson Hyacinth
Stephenson Hyacinth was born in 1956 in the village of Wesley, in the Commonwealth of Dominica. He attended the Dominica Grammar School and the Dominica Teachers College and studied drama in education and theatre arts at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Jamaica. He worked as a school principal before serving as an education officer and as chief education officer (2000-12). He is the author of more than 30 full-length plays, all of which have been performed by the New Dimension Theatre which he formed in 1983. He wrote his first full-length play, Lovers Loss, in 1977. He was awarded Dominica’s highest cultural honour, the Golden Drum Award, in 2008.
