We’re thrilled that Good Night My Sweet Island, our new children’s picture book written by Petrea Honychurch Seaman and illustrated by Susanne Heitz , has been chosen by the UK’s Reading Agency as one of only 25 picture books featured in the Summer Reading Challenge 2024: Marvellous Makers! This is a great honour.

The Summer Reading Challenge begins on 22 June online and in Scotland, and on 6 July in England and Wales. You can join online wherever you are in the world.  It has been running since 1999 and, by working with schools and public libraries in the UK, provides a fun and free activity for children during the summer holidays. In 2023, it reached more than half a million children and families across the UK. It’s a wonderful initiative.

This summer’s theme is all about getting creative which is what we like doing best. The Reading Agency is teaming up with CREATE, an award-winning charity that helps to enhance wellbeing through the creative arts, to spark children’s imagination through books.

Children who participate in the Summer Reading Challenge, either through libraries or online, and choose Good Night My Sweet Island to read, will also get the chance to use our activity resources and to watch a video featuring the author, Petrea Honychurch Seaman, and the illustrator, Susanne Heitz.
